Job Description

Join our team as a TIG Welder specializing in fine plate work (1–5 mm thickness). This is a precision-focused role in a modern manufacturing facility.

For a TIG Welder specializing in small plate work, the job is all about finesse, heat control, and "surgical" precision. TIG welding (Process 141) is the highest level of manual welding, and working with thin materials (1–5 mm) requires a very steady hand to avoid burning through the metal.

Here are the main duties for this specialist role:

1. High-Precision Preparation 📐

Technical Drawing Analysis: Reading symbols and blueprints to determine weld locations, joint types, and required throat thickness.

Material Cleaning: Ensuring that stainless steel, aluminum, or carbon steel plates are perfectly clean (removing oxides and grease) to prevent weld contamination.

Fit-Up & Tacking: Precisely aligning thin plates and using small "tack" welds to hold the structure together without warping the thin material.

2. TIG Welding Execution (Process 141) ⚡

Heat Management: Carefully controlling the amperage (often using a foot pedal or torch slider) to ensure deep penetration without "blowing through" 1 mm sheets.

Filler Rod Technique: Coordinating both hands—one to hold the torch and the other to manually feed the filler wire into the weld pool at a consistent rate.

Gas Flow Control: Setting up shielding gas (typically Argon) to protect the weld pool from the atmosphere, ensuring a "clean" silver or gold finish on the bead.

3. Specialized Thin-Plate Skills 🏗️

Pulse Welding: Using pulsed TIG settings to minimize the heat-affected zone (HAZ), which prevents the thin plates from bending or distorting.

Tight Tolerance Work: Managing "small plate work" where accuracy is measured in millimeters, typical in the food-grade, pharmaceutical, or high-tech sectors.

Visual Perfection: Producing "stack-of-dimes" aesthetic welds that require little to no grinding or post-processing.

4. Quality Control & Finishing 🔍

Visual Inspection: Checking for common thin-plate defects like undercut, porosity, or excessive penetration.

Post-Weld Cleaning: Using pickling paste or specialized brushes to remove discoloration (heat tint) and restore the corrosion resistance of stainless steel.

Measurement Verification: Using gauges to ensure the final assembly matches the drawing dimensions perfectly.

5. Equipment Maintenance & Safety 🛡️

Electrode Preparation: Grinding tungsten electrodes to a sharp, precise point to maintain a stable and concentrated arc.

Torch Maintenance: Regularly checking ceramic cups, collets, and gas lenses for wear and tear.

Safe Workshop Practice: Maintaining a clean workspace and following all safety protocols for high-frequency arc welding.
